It’s Thursday October 16th in the Couve…

Spooky season has officially sunk its claws in, and yes—my girls are witches again for the umpteenth consecutive year, which means I’m a black cat. Again. I was holding out for a Star Wars phase so I could be Lando, but apparently, I’m stuck purring through October.

This weekend’s got all the fall flavors—Día de Muertos at Esther Short Park, Cinema of Horrors Drive-In at the Fairgrounds, and Loowit’s 13th Anniversary bash downtown. And if you haven’t hit Dine the Couve yet, your stomach is missing out.

Also: I cancelled my Trade Coffee subscription to buy local. Got a favorite light roast from a Vancouver roaster? Hit reply—I’m taking notes.

Cheap Flights

I’ve been scrolling flight deals like my TikTok algo is on fire. Only stopping the scroll for Cabo’s beaches, Madrid’s tapas, and Athens’ ancient chaos. If you’ve been dreaming of a post-holiday escape, these fares might be your sign to book before the drizzle sets in for good.

Seriously though, when a nonstop to Cabo costs less than a round-trip to Seattle, you start questioning your loyalty to the Columbia River’s “beach.”

If you see a frazzled black cat wrangling two pint-sized witches downtown or at a trunk or treat this weekend, that’s me—just trying to make it through spooky season one black, light roast coffee at a time. Stay warm, avoid I-5 at rush hour, and I’ll see you out there in the fog.

See you next week,
—Jay 🍻
